Since its foundation in the 12th century, Klosterneuburg Abbey has had a multitude of vocations fulfilled by the canons and the staff in a variety of areas.
Leopold III entrusted the canons with pastoral, scientific and economic tasks which have been maintained for 900 years, although they have changed in the course of history and new tasks have been added. Today, Klosterneuburg Abbey sees itself as a pastoral, cultural and economic centre with the mission of not just preserving the traditions that have grown historically, but rather making them fertile soil for growth in our modern world – out of Christian faith and a commitment to Christian values.
