Contemporary religious art
The Gallery of Modern Art within the Abbey Museum was opened in 2013. It presents religious art from the 20th and 21st centuries. For hundreds of years the abbey has commissioned and acquired works of ecclesiastical art. In recent years, the collection has been beneficially expanded through some bequests and acquisitions. These contemporary works now enter into a fascinating dialogue with those of the classical masters. The spectrum ranges from expressionist art of the 1920s to creations of young Austrian as well as international artists. Visitors will see that contemporary art deals with a lot of topics which are subject to the public discourse: Respect towards Creation, Life and Death in accordance to Christian ethics, the search of contact with a higher spirit.
